100 Year Celebrations On Hold

The Black & Whites 100 Year celebration has been put on hold due to recent COVID 19 restrictions.

After the NSW Government announced tighter restrictions on Saturday, June 26, the organising committee held an urgent meeting to discuss the situation.

Here is a message from the president:

“As you are all aware, our Reunion was set down for the 9th, 10th and 11th of July.

Following on from the announcements made by the New South Wales Government on Saturday, the 26th of June, an urgent meeting has been held by the Reunion Committee.

With the changes to the COVID 19 rules in regards to the one person in four square metre rule for inside gatherings, sitting at all times, and having to wear masks, made it impossible for the Committee to proceed with the Reunion on the planned dates.

Quite simply, we could not have hosted the 325 people who had already purchased Reunion tickets to the dinner and committed to the Reunion Weekend.

The Committee voted unanimously that the Reunion is to be postponed, but we will be moving hell and high water to make sure the event goes ahead when changes to COVID 19 restrictions make it possible.

With a view to this, the Executive of the Committee will be holding a special meeting on Saturday, the 10th of July to review the announcements to be made by the New South Wales Government on Friday, the 9th of July.

The intent of meeting so quickly after these announcements is to establish new dates for the Reunion Weekend, should the announcements made allow us to do so. We will hold a full Committee meeting on Wednesday the 14th of July to put in place plans worked out on Saturday the 10th.

The Committee acknowledges that the change of dates may not suit some people who have already purchased tickets for the Reunion, however once we have released a new set of dates for the Reunion Weekend, we will put in place a process to ensure anyone who cannot attend will receive a full refund.

Please make sure you stay tuned to local media, Black & Whites Facebook and the Griffith Leagues Club website post the weekend of the 10th and 11th of July, so you can receive an update on the Reunion Committee’s plans.”

Donald Matheson, President.
