Just one week remains before the 2022 MLHD Community Survey closes and results are collated and analysed.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District's (MLHD) Community Engagement Manager, Setchen Brimson urged residents across the region to complete the survey before Wednesday, November 30.
“Studies have shown that health services can be regarded as inaccessible if the community is not aware of available services,” Ms Brimson said.
“So an important part of providing access is ensuring the resident population is aware of the availability of these services.
“We’re trying to understand how people go about obtaining information about services and to improve the way we communicate so that communities have a better understanding and better access.”
The 2022 Community Survey was launched on September 1, 2022, calling for people to have their say.
It has been conducted every couple of years since 2014 to gain a better understanding of the health literacy of people in the region.
The survey forms part of MLHD’s Community Engagement Strategy which focuses on informing, consulting and engaging with consumers.
It asks questions about people’s experience with the health service, but also where they seek information about services they need.
“Murrumbidgee Local Health District is serious about ensuring feedback received from our local community is acted on and incorporated into the day-to-day operations of the service,” Ms Brimson said.
“Previous surveys provided invaluable information about thew ay our communities seek information and their perceptions around the availability of services.
“They have provided a real insight into some easily achievable changes in the way we provide information.”
The 2014 survey results led to the redevelopment of the MLHD website to include more comprehensive information about the services.
The 2016 survey opened the way for social media platforms which are now part of everyday connection for many residents across the region, with over 38,000 followers on the MLHD Facebook page.
Data from previous surveys also revealed correlations between people’s age, sex and location and their level of understanding about services available.
“We will continue to work towards improving the way we go about planning, designing and evaluating our services, and this is another step towards ensuring we get it right.”
The survey is available online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MLHD-CS-2022 and on the MLHD website.
Hard copies are also available from your nearest MLHD Hospital reception.
