Griffith Meals on Wheels and Hampers of Hope are accepting donations of long-life food items and toys for their annual Christmas Toy Run.

They distributed over 740 toy gifts last year and around 300 additional Christmas food hampers.

Griffith Meals on Wheels (MOW) and Hampers of Hope (HOH) are now accepting donations for their annual Christmas Food and Toy Run.

Manager MOW and HOH Griffith Aged Support Services Tennille Valensisi said the cost of living pressures made the annual event more important than ever.

“The cost of living crisis has really impacted families across the region in the last 12 months and we have seen a steady increase in demand for our hampers,” Ms Valensisi said.

“”Currently, we are doing around 110 hampers a day, with only one hamper per week per client, so that is huge.

“We are very lucky to receive donations of food from the local community to be able to sustain our project.”

This year, they are once again asking for donations of long-life food or new, unwrapped toys for local children to be shared at Christmas.

They’re looking for donations of new toys/products for local children and teenagers in need from newborn babies to 16-year-old teens.

Examples include Jibbitz, building blocks, plushies, fidget toys, sports balls, summer toys, board games, card games, puzzles, art supplies, beauty pro.

Examples include milk, tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits, Christmas pudding, jelly, popcorn, lollies, chips, custard, bon bons, pasta sauces, pavlova, salt and pepper, canned fruits, canned ham, and condensed milk.

“We received so much feedback from families last year who were so grateful for the assistance they received,” Ms Valensisi said.

“The kids were so excited to unwrap a gift.

“It was a very special time and we were lucky to have a team of elves from Hanwood Football Club come in and help wrap our gifts.

“Can you picture it?

“A team of boys who have quite possibly never wrapped a gift in their life, but they did a wonderful job.”

The MOW and HOH team will be at the Aeroplane car park on Saturday, December 7 from 10:30 am, but until December 6, donations can be dropped off at theYambil Hub at 16 Yambil Street between 9 am and 3 pm.
