ANZACS Honoured Across Griffith And Surrounding Areas
Federal Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley, Jerilderie RSL Sub-branch President, Laurie Blackmore, State Member for Murray, Helen Dalton and Murrumbidgee Council Mayor, Ruth McRae joined the centenary celebrations for the Jerilderie Cenotaph on ANZAC Day.
On Tuesday, April 25 we remembered those long ago soldiers who fought so bravely for our freedoms.
Many of them were just boys.
They went off to war not really comprehending what they would face, not fully understanding that many of them would never return home. We remember them lest we forget.
ANZAC Day is one day that simply cannot be forgotten or changed. It is a day when we must all pay our respects to both the fallen and returned for their service and their sacrifice.
There were plenty of people who tumbled from their cosy beds to attend the dawn services in Griffith and surrounding areas, before sharing breakfast together, attending the commemorative services and marching.
Some spent time catching up with each other while others had a look around the Griffith War Museum.
It is always wonderful to see so many young students from local schools participating in the ANZAC Day March, and so many other youngsters simply coming along to pay their respects.
Crowds also turned out in full force at Coleambally and Jerilderie to commemorate ANZAC Day and this year also marked the centenary of Jerilderie Cenotaph.
Both Federal Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley and Independent State Member for Murray, Helen Dalton were in Jerilderie to join in the celebration of the milestone. IMAGE: Jerilderie cenotaph.
