The Fruits of Labour: Celebrating 100 years of Irrigation Research and the CSIRO exhibition will be on display at Griffith Regional Art Gallery from Saturday, September 21 to Sunday, November 3.

Artists are invited to contribute to The Fruits of Labour: Celebrating 100 years of Irrigation Research and the CSIRO, a community exhibition highlighting the legacy of the CSIRO in Griffith.

This exhibition will showcase CSIRO memorabilia and artworks depicting its importance to the community.

The Australian Citrus Research Station was established in Griffith in 1924, and later became part of the CSIR and, in 1949, the CSIRO focusing on irrigation and water research.

Former CSIRO Research Scientist, Dr Barrie Steer will be assisting the Griffith Regional Art Gallery in the curation of a collection of historical resources for public exhibition during the exhibition.

To help tell the multifaceted story of the life and output of the CSIRO, community members who may have worked for the organisation, or be a relative or friend of someone who may have worked for the CSIRO between 1924 and 2016 are invited to get involved.

Objects and materials that can be used in the artworks include, but not limited to:

  • Documents;

  • Photography (slides, black and white photos);

  • Technology;

  • Publications;

  • Personal effects;

  • Materials; and

  • Garments.

Artists and patrons of Griffith Regional Art Gallery eager to contribute to this important exhibition are encouraged to reach out to the gallery for details on how they can do so.

The exhibition is scheduled for display between Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, November 3.

The exhibition is supported by Griffith Pioneer Park Museum and the gallery’s wine sponsor Dee Vine Estate.

Contact Griffith Regional Art Gallery at 6962 8338 or gallery@griffith.nsw.gov.au for further information about the exhibition.

The gallery is open from 10 am to 5 pm Wednesday to Friday and 11 am to 2 pm Saturday and Sunday.
