Murrumbidgee Shire put on one exciting celebration of everything it means to be Australian across Coleambally, Darlington Point and Jerilderie yesterday.

Council Mayor, Ruth McRae said the day was always a highlight on their annual calendar and it was exciting to see the events back to their normal format after being impacted by COVID restrictions for several years.

This year’s Australia Day Ambassador was well-known food and cooking show personality, Lyndey Milan OAM.

Ms Milan said she was thrilled to be appointed an Australia Day Ambassador for 2023.

“It is my 21st consecutive year, but that makes this year even more special,” Ms Milan said.

“I always request an event in a regional area and find smaller communities make so much effort, it’s fabulous.”

Mayor McRae thanked the many volunteers and Council staff who worked to make the event such a memorable one.

The Australia Day Ceremony kicked off the festivities at John McInnes Square, Brolga Place, Coleambally at 8 am with the presentation of Australia Day Awards and addresses by Lyndey Milan OAM and Mayor McCrae.

A free breakfast followed the ceremony before the live music with Max Jones from 2 to 6 pm at the Brolga Hotel.

More Australia Day Awards were presented at Darlington Point CWA Park at midday with addresses from Lyndy Milan OAM and Mayor McRae followed by a delicious and free barbecue lunch.

The NSW Government also funded an Aussie Day summer break pool party from 12 noon to 3 pm at Darlington Point War Memorial Swimming Pool.
