The Barellan Masters Games’ attracted a record 210 participants to the region to take part in the 10 different sports last weekend.
Before the action commenced, the Goolagong Courts were officially opened on Saturday morning and dedicated to the Goolagong family.
Ian Goolagong opened the Welcome to Country smoking ceremony, with Xavier Beachamp (Narrandera) welcoming the crowd in fluent Wiradjuri.
The NSW Government contributed $267,417 to the project from Round 3 of the Stronger Country Communities Fund to resurface the courts, upgrade the lighting and redo the signage.
Cootamundra MP Steph Cooke said the complex is “a much-loved place that the community has put their heart and soul into upgrading and will help locals and visitors enjoy this great sport.”
“I have no doubt that these new courts will breed a new generation of champions and build a love of this great game in players of all ages,” Ms Steph Cooke said. “It’s a wonderful achievement to see the Club’s vision come to life and an honour to have helped the Club secure this funding.”
Also, Barellan Tennis Club President Louise Hornery was recognised for her hard work with a lifetime membership of the Barellan Tennis Club.
