Australia’s largest cartooning company will visit Griffith next weekend. Specialising in entertainment and children’s educational programs, Cartoon Kingdom, headed up by Danny and Marin Cohen and Danny’s son, Joel, will hold a series of cartoon camps at Griffith Pioneer Park on Saturday and Sunday, May 27 and 28.

Danny’s 40-year profession as a cartoonist really began as a childhood dream.

“I was always drawing as a child and I enjoyed the fact I could create on paper whatever I could imagine,” he said.

“I loved all things creaive and wanted to be a cartoonist from a very young age.

“I loved reading Garfield comics and all the Disney cartoons.

“Mickey Mouse became an obsession and my home and office are decorated with all things Mickey.”

Danny draws full-time at events and functions and spends his time travelling the globe running his camps.

“My son, Joel, will be joining me in Griffith, as well as local staff,” Danny said.

“We run our camps mainly during school holidays in the bigger cities.

“However, there are children everywhere and we started coming to regional centres a few years ago and the kids love attending our programs.

“The children are taught, step-by-step, how to draw fun cartoons.” No previous drawing skills are required to attend the camps; they simply need to show up to learn how to curve a line, connect one point to another and create a picture.

Danny said the benefits to be had from the camps were many.

“The camps are not just for children that like to draw,” he said.

“Many of our loyal, long-term customers love all the fun, inclusive, challenging and exciting games.

“Children are very imaginative.

“I love to watch their creative process as they express themselves in so many ways.

“I like to encourage children to make friends and it is wonderful to hear stories of friendships that have grown beyond the camps.”

Children need to spend time playing, and Cartoon King’s cartooning camp includes treasuring hunting, safe water play fights, shaving cream battles or a simple picnic in the park.

“Children today spend too much time on their devices or sitting in front of their devices or sitting at a computer,” Danny said.

“My policy is to take them out to enjoy nature and have fun outdoors.”

There are four classes over the course of the weekend and children aged between 4 and 15 years of age can attend one or all of them.

Each class costs $39 per child and they accept Creative Kids vouchers.

Parents with creative children can go to www.illustrating-man.com.au and click the Cartoon Camp icon on the home page and select Griffith to book a space.
