Celebrating NSW Women’s Week With Free Rice Tour
Maddy Dunbar will give a guided tour of her family’s rice farm to kick off the NSW Women’s Week event hosted by Murrumbidgee Council and Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia.
Murrumbidgee Council and Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia have joined forces to host a special event to celebrate NSW Women’s Week in Coleambally on Tuesday, March 5.
As one of just 16 organisations that received funding for NSW Women’s Week, Murrumbidgee Mayor Ruth McRae said the council was thrilled to be able to offer this free event.
“I’ll be joining the group and am looking forward to a worthwhile few hours cementing my knowledge about rice production and meeting with other women involved in the industry,” Mayor McRae said.
The event is open to women across the Western Riverina and will begin with local rice producer Maddy Dunbar giving a guided tour of her family's rice-growing property.
After the tour, the group will head to the Coleambally Community Hall for a networking lunch and panel discussion, which Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley will attend.
Four local women experts in agriculture will lead an informative panel session, namely Denise Kelly, Melissa De Bortoli, Emma Finemore and Michele Groat will sit on the panel and share their knowledge and experiences.
The event will run from 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesday, March 5, Participants are welcome to book both the tour and lunch or one event only.
The tour departs from and returns to Coleambally Community Hall.
The day includes:
- A rice farm tour with local rice grower Maddy Dunbar;
- A tour of CopRice Mill
- A panel discussion session and networking lunch at the Coleambally Community Hall with Melissa De Bortoli (Committee Chair Rice Marketing Board, Financial Analysis Specialist and rice grower; Emma Finemore (Agronomist, Elders Coleambally and finalist in the 2021 Young Woman of the Year); and Michele Groat (Local Engagemenet Officer, Commonwealth Environmental Water Office and Deputy Chair of Yenda Producers Board).
A free shuttle bus will be available from Finley, Jerilderie, Leeton, Whitton and Darlington Point.
