Young Celina Piva wins the Name the Crane competition, with her entry Hope.

With her creative entry Hope, St Patrick’s Primary School student, Celina Piva has won the Name the Crane competition.

The tower crane installed to support the construction of the $250 million Griffith Base Hospital (GBH) redevelopment will now and forever more be known as Hope.

GBH General Manager, Joanne Garlick said the competition attracted strong interest with 175 entries and provided an opportunity to connect with Western Riverina students and schools during the construction of the new hospital.

“Our hospitals are important pieces of community infrastructure, and it’s great to see our region’s youngest residents involved in this project while it’s being built,” Ms Garlick said.

“When it opens its doors in 2025, the redeveloped Griffith Base Hospital will not only improve access to new and expanded health services for the local community but also provide employment and training opportunities for our current and future health workforce.

“I’m delighted for Celina’s school, which will receive a $1000 voucher to purchase resources, and I’m hopeful that being part of the project will encourage some of our local students to think about a future career in health.”

Senior Project Manager from ADCO, Josh Innes said a specially created flag would be attached to the crane for all of the community to see.

“Our tower crane, installed in July 2022, plays a vital role in the building process; and it is fantastic to have such a personalised name as the crane supports the hospital construction,” Mr Innes said.

“We hope that the competition has inspired a new generation of young engineers.”

Construction of the new hospital is set to be completed in 2025 before services are transferred over from the current hospital and the new facility is operational.

Health services will continue without interruption during the construction of the new Clinical Services Building.

News and updates on the progress of the new hospital are also available on the project’s website https://gbhredevelopment.health.nsw.gov.au/.
