Griffith’s Small Business Month event, with Michael Campbell from Lucidity Economics, ticked all the boxes.

Griffith City Council and Griffith Business Chamber, with the support of NSW Government, held a very successful Small Business Month event on Tuesday, November 29 at the Griffith Leagues Club.

More than 50 people attended to hear from the keynote speaker, Michael Campbell from Lucidity Economics, who discussed the Australian and local economy and the key threats and flows in the current economic climate.

Council’s Economic Development Coordinator, Karly Sivewright said the evening was insightful, providing attendees with valuable information.

“Michael explained Griffith has suffered the same ailments as the rest of the country including natural disaster, worker shortage and housing shortage,” Mrs Sivewright said.

“But he noted that what we can take away is that Griffith has a bright future with future projected growth in our key industries of manufacturing, agriculture, utilities and health care.”

Mr Campbell said the key ingredients for success and economic growth were jobs, housing and liveability.

“This is where Griffith City Council, Griffith Business Chamber and the local business community can work together to utilise Griffith’s key economic drivers for growth and prosperity,” he said.

The presentation ended with a question and answer session, with some great questions from attendees about the issues of housing, lifestyle, water security and financing opportunities.

Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran thanked Mr Campbell for coming to Griffith and welcomed the new Griffith Business Chamber Executive and President.

“Working with the Chamber means we are able to deliver invaluable programs and sessions as this one, which can help local businesses plan for the future,” Mayor Curran said.

“I am looking forward to working with the Chamber and the new President, Mr John Nikolic to harness future opportunities for Griffith - we have a unique and thriving economy and together we can achieve great things for our local businesses.”

Griffith Business Chamber President, John NIkolic echoed the Mayor’s comments and said he looked forward to building the relationship with Council for the benefit of the city.

“The Chamber and Council have more shared events scheduled, includindg the newly formed community group ‘social business network’ where regular social events to welcome new and existing employees to Griffith,’ Mr Nikolic said.
