Griffith City Council has asked anyone to come forward if they have any information that could lead to the person or persons responsible for the vandalism at Penfold Park.

Griffith City Council appealed to witnesses with information regarding vandalism at the Penfolds Park Rest Area on Mackay Avenue.

It is believed the damage was done overnight on Wednesday, August 23 or in the early hours of Thursday, August 24.

Director of Infrastructure and Operations, Phil Kin said while the cost to repair the wheel tracks may be minimal, the time it takes for repair and to allow the grass to flourish was considerable.

“The matter has been reported to the police, but surely someone knows who did this,” Mr King said.

“Council has a policy in place to encourage the public to play a role in safeguarding the assets of the community.

“I urge anyone who saw anything to come forward.”

Under the Council’s Vandalism Reward Policy, the Council will pay a reward of up to $5000 to members of the public supplying information resulting in the successful prosecution of a person or persons responsible for damaging Council property via acts of vandalism, graffiti or rubbish dumping.

Residents with information relating to the identity of the culprits are urged to report the incident to the local police or Council on 1300 176 777.

Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran expressed his concern over the senseless vandalism.

“Council is committed to providing the best possible facilities for our community to enjoy, but the recurring acts of vandalism makes it that much harder to ensure funds are being diverted to where they should be,” Mayor Curran said.

“This attack is similar to one that occurred at Ted Scobie Oval back in June.

“I’m not sure what satisfaction these fools get from these actions but our community deserves better.”
