COG-Meeting

Council staff and Councillors will continue community consultation around a proposed Special Rate Variation at the next Community Opinion Group Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 1 from 7 pm at Hanwood Catholic Club.

Griffith City Council continues to seek the community’s view on a proposed Special Rate Variation (SRV) to ensure long-term financial viability and to maintain service levels.

An application would be made to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) for approval to raise Ordinary Rates by 10.5 per cent (inclusive of the assumed 3.0 per cent IPART rate peg each year for three consecutive years starting 2024.25.

This is a total cumulative increase of 34.9 per cent.

The base rate increase would be retained permanently. Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran encouraged all ratepayers to get involved in the process, stating that Council had held a few information sessions, and addressed the Griffith Business Chamber and U3A.

There are still four more community information sessions where ratepayers can also give feedback.

“If you can’t get along to one of the sessions listed below, I ask that you head to our webpage www.griffith.nsw.gov.au/srvhaveyoursay,” Mayor Curran said.

“You will find lots of information and an option to make a submission.”
