Dalton Says Thanks, But More Please
Griffith Base Hospital continues to perform well up against the State’s public hospitals of similar size.
Independent Member for Murray, Helen Dalton has welcomed the State Government’s funding announcement for the seat of Murray, but said the people of Murray were expecting a lot more.
“It’s great news that funding has been put aside for the completion of the gymnasium for both Wade and Griffith sites of Murrumbidgee Regional High School,” Ms Dalton said.
“But it would have been better if the announcement included the timeline for re-naming the two school and an update on the new uniforms.
“That’s the detail people are seeking.”
The State budget also had some positive outcomes for the electorate for health and education.
“It was reassuring to hear that Griffith Base Hospital has been guaranteed $250M in ongoing findings,” Ms Dalton said.
“Right now the hospital lacks adequate staff and accommodation and I hope this funding will be usewd to repurpose the temporary surgical ward rather than demolishing it once the upgrade is complete.
“I’ll continue to advocate for part of this money to be allocated to establishing a permanent mental health and drug and alcohol rehab facility on the hospital grounds.”
Ms Dalton said more resources were needed across the electorate, especially when it came to support for healthcare workers.
She said that Leeton Hospital was desperate for two more full-time doctors and Deniliquin Hospital was crying out for more resources to continue as a medical hub for communities including Hay, Jerilderie, Moulemein, Mathoura, Tocomwal and Cobram.
“Ultimately, this is a case of thanks, but more please,” Ms Dalton said.
