Dalton Secures Commitment To A Model Restructure For Murrumbidgee Regional
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Prue Car commits to restructure for Murrumbidgee Regional High School.
In what can only be described as an uphill battle, Independent Member for Murray, Helen Dalton has managed to successfully secure a commitment from the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Prue Car for a restructured model for secondary education in Griffith.
Ms Dalton strongly encouraged Minister Car to see for herself the result of the “ill-considered” merger leading to both of them meeting with teachers and staff at Wade and Griffith sites of Murrumbidgee Regional High School.
Urgent action to begin the demerge process was recommended by Ms Dalton, and after listening to teachers, staff and parents of the high school, Minister Car committed to certain action to be undertaken immediately.
- No current staff member to lose their job at the school because of the transition to a new school model;
- NESA will provide two individual school numbers for the 2023 Year 11 cohort in time for the 2024 HSC.
- A review will be undertaken of the Teacher Incentive Scheme and the specific rules that currently penalise teachers who live and teach in Griffith.
Ms Dalton, who has worked tirelessly for years to get to this point, said a demerger had been a long time coming.
Despite fears the process would be as disruptive as the original merger, the transition to a new model will be achieved in the most supportive way possible for students, staff and community.
