The New South Wales Government has announced it will conduct a 50GL environmental flush in the Darling-Baaka River.

Independent Member for Murray, Helen Dalton said the announcement was belated but necessary.

“Thank goodness the NSW Government is finally acting,” Ms Dalton said.

“Blue-green algae has taken over huge parts of the river and this environment flush is desperately needed.”

Ms Dalton has called on the State Government to take back control of the sections of the Murray Darling Basin that are in NSW.

The flush of water will commence from the upper Menindee Lakes down through the lower Darling-Baaka River to help clear the current infestation of blue-green algae that is currently impacting local communities.

Water will move along a 500 km stretch of the river, reaching the bottom of the system in about a week.
