Darlington Point Mini Skate Bowl officially opens with Mayor Ruth McRae and Sussan Ley MP on Tuesday, April 12.

The Darlington Point Skate Bowl at CWA Park was officially opened on Tuesday, April 12, with plenty of skating enthusiasts out for the event.

Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae said she was thrilled that the Skate Bowl and Jerilder’s new Skate Park and Pump Track were officially opened.

“We’re at an exciting phase in the Murrumbidgee Council area, with many new projects recently completed or very close to it,” Cr McRae said.

“All of these have been made possible with significant amounts of government funding.

“Both parks have been a hive of activity since they were completed.

“The new skate bowl was finished just in time for Christmas and the Jerilderie facility, only a few weeks ago.

“It’s tremendous to see so many families and young people making use of these wonderful new facilities.

“The popularity of the Youth Week skate workshops shows just how keen our community is on getting out and mastering their skating skills.”

Darlington Point’s skate bowl was an addition to the existing skate park, with new features including flatbanks, roll-ins, high rails, quarter pockets and a mogul blend. The project cost $204,209.

Farrer MP Sussan Ley attended both openings, which followed a series of free skate workshops across the Council area as part of Youth Week.

The Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program has alloocated $3.8m to Murrumbidgee and a total of $55m across all of Farrer’s 14 LGAs.

The Coalition committed a $500 million extension to the program in last month’s Federal Budget, taking the total commitment to $3 billion.

Ms Ley said the two parks were among 6,400 community projects already completed or under construction, helping local government across the country deliver upgrades to their local roads, bike paths, community halls, playgrounds, parks and sports facilities, as well as improved accessibility to public facilities.
