Griffith City Council expands dump-for-free events to two months - March and October.

In the wake of an overwhelmingly successful dump-for-free month trialled last year, Griffith City Council has decided to expand the program for 2024.

This year, there will be two drump-for-free months - March and October.

Residents will be able to dispose of general domestic waste, including garden debris and mixed recyclables, free of charge during the designated months.

Griffith Mayor Doug Curran said he was happy to announce the expansion of dump-for-free.

“We are excited to expand it and provide our community with more opportunities to responsibly dispose of their waste,” Mayor Curran said.

“The feedback we received was really positive.

“Over 4,300 residents utilised the service last October and appreciated being able to plan what day or weekend over the month they could take their rubbish out.”

Throughout March, each household is entitled to dispose of up to two standard loads, with a maximum of four car tyres per load.

Commercial or agricultural tyres won’t be accepted.

A standard load is defined as equivalent to a car and trailer combination or a single car or ute load.

It is crucial to adhere to these guidelines for a smooth and efficient disposal process.

Residents are reminded that hazardous materials such as asbestos will not be accepted during the dump-for-free event.

Griffith Council encourages responsible waste disposal and urges residents to utilise the free Community Recycling Centre (CRC) located at the Tharbogang Waste Management Facility.

The CRC serves as a permanent drop-off location for common household problem wastes that cannot be collected through Council kerbside waste and recycling collection services.

Accepted items at the CRC include paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, motor oils, other oils, car and household batteries, smoke detectors and fluorescent globes/tubes.

The Tharbogang Waste Management Centre will be open from 8 am to 5 pm seven days a week.

The Yenda Centre will also be open from 1 pm to 5 pm on Sundays.

Dump-for-free dates for 2024 are:

  • Friday, March 1 to Sunday, March 31; and
  • Monday, September 30 to Friday, November 1.
