Dump-for-Free-Oct

Residents have until Thursday, October 31 to take advantage of Dump for Free Month and declutter and get rid of the rubbish around their homes.

Dump for Free month kicked off on Tuesday, October 1 and will continue until Thursday, October 31.

Residents have the opportunity to dispose of their waste free of charge at the Tharbogang and Yenda Waste Management Centres.

Griffith City Council’s Waste Operations Manager John Roser said the success of the previous Dump for Free months had inspired Council to bring back the popular initiative.

“We are really happy to be offering Dump for Free again so that we can provide our community with more opportunities to responsibly dispose of their waste,” Mr Roser said.

“The feedback we received from March was extremely positive.

“I urge everyone to get busy with spring cleaning so you can take advantage of this offer.”

Acceptable items as part of the Dump for Free event include:

General domestic waste;

Green waste (eg, tree clippings, leaves, grass);

Mixed recyclables; and

Up to four standard car tyres (per load).

Throughout October, each household is entitled to dispose of up to two standard loads for free.

A standard load is defined as equivalent to a car and trailer combination or a single car or ute load.

Items that will not be accepted as part of Dump for Free Month, include:

  • Commercial or agricultural tyres;

  • Hazardous materials (eg, asbestos, chemicals);

  • Building and construction waste; and

  • Commercial waste.

Hazardous materials will not be accepted under the Dump for Free initiative.

Residents may dispose of items such as paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, motor oils, and car and household batteries at the Community Recycling Centre (CRC), located at the Tharbogang Waste Management Facility.

The CRC is a permanent drop-off point for common household problem wastes that cannot be collected through kerbside services.

Waste Management Centre operating hours are:

  • Tharbogang - 8 am to 5 pm, seven days a week; and

  • Yenda - 1 pm to 5 pm, Sundays only.

Residents are reminded to follow the guidelines for disposal and ensure all loads are sorted appropriately.
