Counsellor Donna Piromalli has donated nearly $7,000 to Can Assist Griffith and Griffith Suicide Prevention Support Group following fundraising and ticket sales profits at the launch of her new book, More Than Just a Hairdresser.

She said the generosity displayed as part of the event “was yet another reminder of why living in this community is so wonderful.” This is Ms Piromalli’s second title.

As a practitioner she has noticed the prevalence of pain caused by illness and death. This led to the choice to support the two charities with the launch.

“I do a lot of grief therapy in my practice which is one of the saddest times in peoples’ lives,” she said.

She hopes More Than Just a Hairdresser can inspire wellness and prioritising mental health.

“My books are primarily about communication and things that I’ve learnt as a therapist that I wished I had known as a hairdresser when working with my clients,” Donna said.

“My book and the companion workbook also gives reader’s an opportunity to reflect over all parts of their life and work out what’s working well and what areas we can improve.

As the mind is a powerful tool, Donna hopes we can all take a moment every day to pay attention to our thought patterns and mental habits. She suggests ways to improve your position in life are setting goals, raising awareness and learning to communicate.

“The art of communication impacts on all parts of your life.”
