Entries To The National Capital Art Prize Close At The End Of June

The National Capital Art Prize has reminded artists to submit their entries before Friday, June 30.

This Australia-wide competition has over $45,000 prize money up for grabs across three categories, including:

• Open Prize;
• First Nations Prize for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists; and
• The Sustainability Prize.

With every state and territory represented, there were over 800 entries to last year’s competition.

The Open and First Nation Prize categories can be of any subject but must be a painting that can be framed and hung on the wall.

The Sustainability category, open to all mediums, including sculpture and photography, is based on the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – a plan of action for people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships.

The Sustainability category was the most popular in 2022, with some fascinating and thought-provoking works submitted.

This year’s judges include:

• Emeritus Professor Sasha Grishin AM FAHA - long-term art critic and author of over 25 books;
• Wendy Sharpe - one of Australia’s most significant and awarded artists;
• The Hon. Justice John Sackar - President of Arts Law and advocate for the Australian arts community;
• Wayne Quliam - one of Australia’s most lauded Aboriginal artists, curators and cultural advisors working on the international stage; and
• Adam Knight - Australian art curator and dealer.
