Four Heritage Point Sites Awarded Funding For Restoration And Repair
The historic Catholic Church in Darlington Point is one of four recipients of heritage funding, with new lighting enhancing visibility for attendees while preserving the building’s charm.
In a significant boost for heritage preservation efforts, four historic sites in Darlington Point will undergo essential repairs and restorations, thanks to a funding injection of $25,000.
The funding, facilitated jointly by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage and Murrumbidgee Council, aims to safeguard the rich cultural legacy of these iconic landmarks.
The successful recipients include:
Toganmain Woolshed - fix drainage situation at shearer’s quarters, $4,771;
Hay Road (former church), Darlington Point - repair doors and window frames, $7,730;
Catholic Church, Darlington Point - upgrade and enhance the lighting for better visibility, $4,290; and
2 Punt Road (cafe), Darlington Point - paint exterior of the building, $6,860.
Consultation fees for the local heritage advisor were included in the funding allocation.
Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae said the funding was vital in preserving the area’s rich heritage and ensuring the longevity and integrity of these significant buildings for generations to come.
Mayor McRae said Council was thrilled to support initiatives that helped preserve unique landmarks and ensure they remained a source of pride and inspiration for both residents and visitors.
“Each of the successful recipients has demonstrated a deep commitment to preserving the distinctive heritage of our area,” Mayor McRae said.
“Their efforts will help safeguard the stories and craftsmanship that are integral to our community’s history.”
As part of the funding agreement, recipients will match the funding on a dollar-for-dollar basis and complete the projects by the end of 2025.
