With grape harvest now in full swing I’d urge local motorists to be aware and consider our farmers who will be delivering their grapes to wineries around the clock in the coming weeks.
While it’s extremely important that our operators and cartage contractors comply with relevant legislation and don’t overload, it’s also worth asking all road users to help by reporting any spills as soon as they notice them and appreciate that heavy vehicles are harder to handle.
Vintage is not a long period of time for us to share the roads with the truck drivers doing their best to get their loads delivered. Council is delighted to be supporting the proposed NRL game and the clinics being held this weekend.
It will be great for the City to have the South Sydney Rabbitohs take on Group 20 invitational side on Saturday 20 February. I am also extremely pleased to see that prior to the main match they will be playing the Roger Penrith Memorial Game at 5pm. What a wonderful trribute to a truly remarkable local man.
Work is progressing well on the Henderson Oval Playground. This is just one of the local playgrounds we have earmarked on our Playground Strategy.
The plans for this particular playground were the result of feedback from residents who use it. We want to make our playgrounds as inclusive as possible and ensure that they meet the needs of our community, that’s why it’s so important that when we call for input we receive it otherwise we have no other choice but to proceed as best we can to make sure we continue to make progress.
With this in mind I’d like to encourage everyone to give us their views when asked about the priorities for our future. Think about what you want to see in Griffith to make it the best place possible. We have an existing Community Strategic Plan (CSP) that sets out what residents told us they wanted us to focus on back in 2017. It’s not a bad Plan, in fact it’s great, but in reviewing it we are bound to find you want us to shift our focus a little.
We know we might get some pie in the sky ideas and that’s okay too, but what we’d really love to hear are achievable ideas otherwise, they are simply not obtainable goals. We need positive members of the public who will actively participate in creating feasible goals with Council.
At the Council meeting held 9 February Council rejected all tenders for the Griffith Regional Sports Precinct – Westend Oval Design and Construct Contract and will now enter into negotiations with a preferred tender. What this means is that yet another big ticket item will be getting underway very soon. The work that will be undertaken at this site forms part of our overall Sports Precinct and includes the new 50m pool. Speaking of, please make sure you stop by Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre and take in the new pool – it is a fantastic community asset.
Until next time,
Mayor John Dal Broi
