Event organisers are invited to apply for funding to boost their events and festivals thanks to the NSW Government’s Community Event Program.

Events and festivals in the Murrumbidgee LGA will get a welcome boost with Council now able to offer funding to community groups and other organisations thanks to the NSW Government’s Community Event Program.

Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae said they had received just over $119,000 through the program to inject much-needed funding into the community to support local recovery and provide positive outcomes.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for the community groups to kick start new events or top up existing events that will be enjoyed by the community,” Cr McRae said.

“We are so fortunate to have such dedicated and passionate community groups in our area and we are very excited to see the ideas put forward for bringing the community together.”

Events must be held before March 31 next year. Possible events include existing or new community markets and bazaars, festivals and fairs, sporting events, food and leisure events, community classes and workshops, agricultural field days (run by community organisations) and touring events and theatre programs.

NSW Government-specified criteria states that events must be open to all members of the public, free to attend or a very small fee to cover extra costs.

They must also have a primary purpose of reconnecting communities and improving social cohesion of the local community.

Events must not be primarily for fundraising, for the applicant’s own financial gain or for political purposes.

Visit Council’s website or contact the Director of Planning, Community and Development, Garry Stoll, on 02 6954 4060 for more information on the grants.

Applications will be accepted until 5 pm on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.
