Funding Secured For Local Crown Reserves Across Murray

Griffith’s Scenic Hill Reserve is one of a number of Crown Reserves across the Murray to secure funding for maintenance and upgrades.

Duty MLC for Murray, Wes Fang announced that over $895,000 would be forthcoming to maintain and upgrade Crown land reserves and community facilities across the region.

The NSW Government grants were provided by the Department of Planning and Environment - Crown Lands from the Crown Reserves Improvement Fund.

“It’s fantastic that $895,813 has been allocated to support local reserves and community facilities, including upgrades to Barooga Recreation Reserve and upgrades and repairs to Pooncarie Outpatients Clinic to allow allied health services to return,” Mr Fang said.

Projects being funding in the Murray electorate include:

  • Scenic Hill Reserve in Griffith and five travelling stock reserves to control weeds, which will support graziers and improve biodiversity will receive $154,672;
  • Leeton Showground will receive $323,421 to replace a storage shed and upgrade and seal roads around the trotting track and showground buildings;
  • Leeton Racecourse will receive $30,800 to demolish the old, structurally unsafe and condemned grandstand;
  • Rankins Springs Pony Club Reserve will receive $21,899 to buy a lawnmower and construct a safety rail around the undercover arena that is being built;
  • Deniliquin Racecourse will receive $78,827 to upgrade the power supply and replace light towers at its rodeo arena;
  • Barooga Recreation Reserve will receive $158,481 to replace the 25-year-old cricket nets with new five-lane nets to support local cricket clubs;
  • Pooncarie Outpatients Clinic will receive $98,775 for upgrades, repairs and landscaping to allow the return of services including audiology, eye health, chiropractic and childcare; and
  • Gol Gol Forest Reserve at Monak will receive $28,938 to upgrade roads and tracks.

Minister for Lands and Water, Kevin Anderson said Crown land covered about 34 million hectares or 42 per cent of NSW, with more than 34,000 reserves across the State.

“Crown reserves provide communities with land for everything from showgrounds, racecourses, surf lifesaving clubs and community halls to ovals, parks, green space and walking trails,” Mr Anderson said.
