Dolly and Flick are just two of the animals looking for a place to call home and a family of their own this Christmas.

If you are thinking of giving a pet for Christmas, consider adopting one instead of shopping for one.

People often welcome a new pet into their families or give a cat or dog as a gift to a loved one at Christmas.

This year, Griffith City Council pound and Rehoming Centre has invited prospective pet owners to consider adopting a pet.

All animals at the pound and Rehoming Centre ready for adoption can be found on the website at www.griffith.nsw.gov.au/Residents/Pets-and-animals/Adopt-a-pet

As well as providing wonderful new furry family members, adopting instead of shopping for a pet has the added benefit of reducing the burden on the pound and helps lower euthanasia rates.

Along with the “adopt not shop” message, pet owners are reminded of the three easy steps of responsible pet ownership - microchipping, desexing and registering their pets.

Giving an animal a second chance at a forever home fits with the spirit of Christmas.
