The $250 million Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment has achieved a major milestone, with construction of the new three-storey clinical services building reaching its highest point.
Regional Health Minister, Ryan Park said the new clinical services building is the centrepiece of the hospital’s redevelopment, which is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region.
He said the topping out ceremony was a significant milestone in the construction of the new health facility, which will enhance healthcare for our community and increase capacity to better meet the current and future health needs of this growing area of NSW.
“When complete, the purpose-builot clinical services building will house all major health services under the one roof, significantly enhancing health services and facilities for Griffith and surrounding communities,” Mr Park said.
“The redevelopment will support contemporary models of care and improve patient experiences, including a new aged care and rehabilitation inpatient unit and expanded outpatient services with more specialist clinic rooms and renal and oncology chairs.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Dr Michael Holland said the hospital had been designed in close collaboration with staff and clinicians and would feature three palliative care rooms for patients and their loved ones.
“Inpatient rooms with ensuites, community courtyard areas, landscaped gardens and a cafe will also be included as part of the redevelopment, all designed to create a welcoming and supportive environment for patients, visitors and staff,” Dr Holland said.
“With work ramping up, there are over 100 people on site each day to support construction, including a number of women who have taken up a diverse range of roles, including project engineers, administrators and design managers.”
In addition to the world-class health facility, the new hospital continues to provide a real boost to the local economy, supporting hundreds of jobs and helping to build the careers of many women in the industry.
The Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment includes:
- An enhanced emergency department with more treatment spaces;
- Separate Emergency Department and hospital reception entrances;
- More overnight and day-only beds to address future demand for health services, with a significant boost in aged care and rehabilitation beds;
- Two new operating theatres and a procedure room;
- New surgical and medical inpatient units;
- New maternity and paediatric inpatient units, including four new beds to support patients aged 16 years and over requiring short-term, mental health care;
- Expanded medical imaging with new CT and nuclear medicine service;
- Refurbished Community Health facilities; and
- New car parking with accessible spaces.
