The Griffith Blacks Rugby Club hosted four grades of rugby against Wagga City at Exies Sporties on the weekend. Blacks 3rd Grade showed a great example of doing everything correctly and turning up for each other. They won over ladder leaders Wagga City 12-7, jumping three spots to be 3rd on the ladder.

It was a gritty game and the win was hard fought. Their scramble defence was superb and they held their ground attack after attack on their line. Tries to Johnny Brown and Angus Gunn.

2nd Grade continued their good form taking a 14-7 lead at half time with tries to Julian Marela-Kiriua and Toby Nikora. The 2nd half saw a fight back from Wagga City to see them snatch the win 22-17 on the bell with a sneaky blind-side move. Griffith Blacks 2nds are still sitting in the 1st position on the ladder.

The Griffith Blackettes continued their dominance in the 10 a side Ladies comp with another near faultless performance, winning 51-0. Meat pies everywhere with sisters Ua Ravu and Janiana Ravu having a day out both getting hattricks and a try each to Ofa Siale and Fay Saula. Blacks’ Ladies never looked in trouble and, for the 5th match in a row, left their opposition scoreless.

The Blackettes currently sit in 1st position on the ladder and remain undefeated with a whopping 276 points for and just 7 points conceded. Well done ladies. First grade came up against a red hot and undefeated competition leaders Wagga City Boiled Lollies.

Early in the game, when the Blacks had the ball they showed control and winger Suliano Kabara crossed for a try to only be disallowed for a forward pass. From that point on, the Blacks rarely had possession and to their credit only trailed 7-0 at half time.

The 2nd half was more of the same with the Blacks unable to get possession, making a million tackles but they never gave up going down 19-0.

Coach Chris Mcgregor now knows they can compete with the bench mark of the competition. He was disappointed with the loss but extremely proud of the effort. 1st grade currently sit 4th on the ladder with 15, 1 point ahead of Tumut Bulls on 14. First and 2nd grade have the bye this weekend with 3rd grade and the Ladies playing Leeton Phantoms at Leeton. Good luck to both teams.
