Griffith Centre Brings Home Goodies Award For Inclusion

The team at Goodstart Early Learning on Sanders Street has won a national Goodies Award for their inclusion practices.

Centre Director, Tahnee Jamieson said she was extremely proud of what her team has achieved.

“We have a child with a significant disability,” Ms Jamieson said.

“We just got together to seek ways we could better support her, to support our students.”

In fact, the team has just completed gastric tube feed training organised locally by Kate Lancaster.

This training means that the young student, who has had to miss some of her sessions due to her need to be tube-fed is no longer an issue, for her or for any future child in the same situation.

It is practices like this that saw them nominated for the National Award for Social Inclusion - Making a Difference.

They were shortlisted to the top three and went on to win.

They were also nominated for an award for advancing reconciliation, for which they received a Highly Commended, and Ms Jamieson herself was nominated for an individual Good Starter award for which she received a Highly Commended.

Once nominated for the awards, the team was given the opportunity to gather supporting letters and they received some very moving words from a range of their families which were forwarded to the judging panel.

The judges said the team collectively demonstrated the values of inclusion and their deep reflection and commitment to growing and developing as a team was inspiring.

They said the advocacy and perseverance to ensure that all children were respected, included and flourished, was evident.

They said Goodstart Griffith Sanders Street were truly making a difference for children, families, the team and the community.
