Griffith City Council Celebrates Local Government Week
Griffith City Council has arranged a series of events to celebrate Local Government Week and every resident is invited to get involved.
Griffith City Council has invited residents to help celebrate Local Government Week with a range of events.
Held from August 1 to 7, Local Government Week is an opportunity to showcase all of the ways Coucnil leads the community.
With no official theme issued for this year’s Local Government Week, Griffith City Council went with ‘We Love Griffith’, offering the chance to reflect on what is great about our city.
The annual Volunteers’ Thank You morning tea will be held on Tuesday, August 2, where Council volunteers enjoy a morning tea in the foyer of Griffith Regional Theatre.
Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said the events held throughout the week were a chance for locals to get to know the staff a little better and find out more about Council.
“Many people know that Council is responsible for local roads, rates and rubbish, but are less aware of the many other services we provide,” Councillor Curran said.
“We operate a free local library, provide spaces for community groups, administer grants, maintain playgrounds and sporting fields and a whole lot more.
“I invite residents to get involved in the activities we have planned throughout the week.”
Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre (GRALC) will offer free come-and-try classes for Griffith residentsfrom Monday to Friday.
Classes are capped at 20 participants, so book prior to attending so you don’t miss out.
Casual members can call 6962 8228 to book one hour prior to a class commencing.
Council staff will hold a Council Cafe at Griffith City Library on Friday, August 5 from 10 am to 12noon, with plenty of giveaways including balloons and coffee vouchers.
Residents will also learn about major projects and much more. If you have any feedback for us about any of the services or facilities Council provides, call down to the Cafe.
The Open Day at the Griffith Visitor Information Centre on Saturday, August 6 will close out Local Government Week, coinciding with the newly renovated interpretive display area.
Visitors and locals alike are invited to drop in to the Visitor Information Centre and meet the Griffith Tourism Team, learn about the services offered, upcoming events and what Griffith has to offer.
You may even be inspired to become a tourist in your own town.
Sample some local delicacies from the extensive range of regional produce on the day and meet som eof the local producers.
Enjoy a sausage sizzle, scavenger hunt and be in the running for a lucky door prize.
A series of staff profiles will be on Council’s Facebook and Instagram sites.
