The city took advantage of Local Government Week to celebrate all of the fantastic services that Griffith City Council offers residents.

Griffith celebrated Local Government Week, July 31 to August 6, with a diverse range of activities catering to all residents, and offering a glimpse into the Council’s functions and the wide array of community services it offers.

Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran said Local Government Week was always a highlight on the Council calendar.

“It’s important that we hear directly from residents,” Mayor Curran said.

“I appreciate those who took the time to engage with us.”

There was a good turnout at the Council Cafe held at Griffith Central to learn about the proposed Special Rate Variation and enjoy giveaways including seeds, cookies, and coffee vouchers.

Council also recognised the unwavering commitment of its facility volunteers, rewarding them with a special morning tea.

Local Government Week highlighted the dedication of Council staff members, who were featured on social media.

Fun facts about some of the popular Council facilities were shared to engage the community. Griffith City Library actively participated in the week, showcasing the diverse range of services it offers.

Throughout the week Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre provided free exercise classes for residents to experience and enjoy.

The creation of an activity booklet, designed to encourage creative learning among school students demonstrates Council’s ongoing commitment to engaging with the City’s youngest residents.

This booklet will continue to serve as a valuable resource even beyond Local Government Week.

All primary schools in the Griffith Local Government Area were given a gift card to purchase books or educational supplies.

Overall, Local Government Week 2023 was a resounding success, fostering community engagement and promoting creative learning while highlighting the essential services provided by Council.
