Forty-three community members and organisations have been nominated for an Australia Day Award.
These individuals and groups have been nominated for their hard work and contributions to the community across eight categories, including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year and Club Person of the Year.
Griffith City Mayor Doug Curran said the Council was delighted to have received so many outstanding nominations.
“These nominees have worked tirelessly, devoting time and energy into making Griffith a better place to live for all,” Mayor Curran said.
“It is wonderful to see so many citizens being recognised for the outstanding work they do for our community.”
The council is also set to welcome 26 new Australian citizens from 11 countries on Australia Day.
Those countries include Saudi Arabia, Ireland, India, Brazil, China, the United Kingdom and the Philippines.
The new citizens will receive their citizenship following the Australia Day Awards.
All residents are invited to attend this free community event, which will start at 10 am.
