Griffith City Council gave the green light to the construction of a new Mountain Bike track at Abattoir Road at the Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday, October 10.

The $500,000 project was funded under the NSW Government’s Open Spaces Program: Places to Play 2021/22.

The decision to proceed followed public consultation with user groups and members of the public from July to September this year.

Mayor Doug Currant said he was pleased to see the project progress.

“This Mountain Bike Track is something the community told us they wanted,” Mayor Curran said.

“Some members of the community have been vocal about this project and Council has appreciated their feedback.

“We have heard the local residents’ concerns quite loudly and we will continue to work with them.

“I am now happy to say we will be able to provide another space for residents and visitors to our City to use.”

Council is still liaising with the Member for Murray about the possibility of additional funding to enhance the Mountain Bike Track.

The project involves constructing a Mountain Bike Track consisting of tracks, roll-over and kicker ramps and aims to act as an inclusive public playspace, providing the Griffith community and visitors with an area to experience adventurous play, positively impacting health and well-being.

The new track is expected to be completed by February 2024.
