The Griffith Regional Art Gallery will mark four decades of enriching the local arts and culture scene on its 40th anniversary on Saturday, September 9.

To commemorate this momentous occasion, the Gallery is curating a community exhibition, Celebrating 40 Years, showcasing a diverse collection of artworks, historical information, and other ephemera, providing an immersive experience into the Gallery’s rich and vibrant history.

The upcoming exhibition will serve as a retrospective celebration, paying homage to the Gallery’s extensive journey and the countless artists, patrons, and supporters who have contributed to its success.

Everyone is invited to be part of the Gallery’s story - community and art enthusiasts alike can actively participate in the special anniversary exhibition.

Entries are now open, if you own any artworks purchased from the Gallery, possess objects or materials that are part of the Gallery’s 40-year history, or simply wish to create an artwork that celebrates its enduring legacy.

Gallery Coordinator, Raymond Wholohan gave a synopsis of Celebrating 40 Years.

“This exhibition is intended to reflect our community’s collective experiences and memories of the development, growth and legacy of the Art Gallery,” Mr Wholohan said.

“To local artists, we encourage you to create artwork based on your experiences with the Gallery.

“To patrons who have purchased a beloved artwork from exhibitions during the Gallery’s 40 years, or who have photographs, print media or any other Art Gallery mementos, we would love to hear from you.” The entry form can be downloaded from www.griffithregionalartgallery.com.au or picked up from the Gallery.

Entries close at 5 pm on Friday, August 18, with a cost of $5 per entry and a limit of two entries per person.

Gallery staff are happy to assist patrons and artists, contact the Griffith Regional Art Gallery on 6962 8338 or at gallery@griffith.nsw.gov.au to discuss the potential inclusion of your artwork or any materials you possess that may be relevant to the exhibition.

“Celebrating 40 Years will serve as a nostalgic reflection, illustrating the transformative power of art and the enduring impact the Griffith Regional Art Gallery has had on generations of artists, art lovers, and the wider community,” Mr Wholohan said.

Celebrating 40 Years will run from Saturday, August 26 to Sunday, September 24.

The anniversary celebration event will be held on Saturday, September 9 from 2 pm.
