Kabbadi is always a highlight of the annual Griffith Shaheedi Tournament - Sikh Games held over the June long weekend.

If you have lived in Griffith within the last 25 years and haven’t experienced the Griffith Shaheedi Tournament, otherwise known as the Sikh Games, you need to get out more.

This event held over two days of the June long weekend attracts more than 20,000 people to the city - June 10 and 11 this year.

Ted Scobie Oval, and the entire Collina Area, is filled with both road and foot traffic as everyone comes together to pit their skills against each other in volleyball, kabaddi, wrestling, athletics, tug-of-war, soccer, martial arts, turban tying and musical chairs.

Some events will be held at Griffith Regional Sports Centre this year.

Due to the overwhelming attendance at this annual event, Griffith City Council has advised that a Traffic Management Plan will be in place and encouraged everyone to obey the signage and drop their speed limits accordingly.

Council’s Parking Enforcement Officers will be on duty across the two-day event to ensure parking and road rules are adhered to.

Additional restricted parking, including a bus zone and a No Parking zone, will be implemented along the Clifton Boulevard frontage of Ted Scobie Oval.

All usual road rules will continue to apply.

People are advised to observe the following rules:

  • Private Vehicles are not to park on the oval or grass area.
  • Vehicles are not to park in or in front of private driveways.
  • Vehicles are not to park on the nature strip or in a manner that obstructs pedestrian access.

All that is left after that is to enjoy the family-friendly festivities.
