Griffith To Get Electric Chargic Stations
The future is coming to Griffith sooner than you may think.
Griffith is getting an additional six new Tesla charging stations for electric vehicles, though dates are still to be advised.
The city had two charging stations installed at the Griffith Visitor Information Centre car part following an agreement between Griffith City Council and Tesla back in 2020.
When Council met on June 28, Tesla Motors Australia proposed installing, at no cost to Council, an additional six destination chargers.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said installation of the new chargers would further encourage Electric Vehicle (EV) Tourism to the city.
“This new agreement will see an additional six stations installed by Tesla who will cover all costs as well as pay for the rental of the car spaces in accordance with Council’s Revenue Policy,” Councillor Curran said.
“Those with electric cars can now have the confidence to place Griffith on their itineraries, assisting with growing our tourism market and injecting more funds into the local economy.
“Research shows that EV use in tourism positively impacts the environment and enhances sustainability for economic and social development.”
The new supercharging stations recharge an electric vehicle in around 30 minutes, and while they will be available for public use it is anticipated that the majority of local residents with electric vehicles will have their own charging infrastructures at home.
Tesla Motors will cover the cost of installation and ensure the maintenance and use of the chargers for a minimum of ten years. Tesla will also be responsible for connections to the electricity grid.
Projections currently indicate EVs will account for 58 per cent of new car sales by 2040, and more affordable models will become available on the Australian market.
