The Griffith Waratahs shook last week’s defeats off like water from a duck’s back and set their faces toward this weekend’s games.
First grade lost against Griffith Black and Whites 56 to 16 last week, with their reserve team losing 48 to 18.
Waratah’s president Robert Nascimben said both the senior and junior clubs would be playing.
“The juniors will play five games, with their first kick-off at 9:15am,” Nascimben said.
“Our first game kick off will be about 12:30pm.”
With a full day of action ahead of them this weekend, Nascimben said that they were struggling for numbers from the lockdowns as a result of COVID-19.
“We don’t have an under 16s side this year,” he said.
“Where last year we had 26 signed up... we might have lost them to other sports, we just don’t know.”
“We don’t have a league tag team this year.”
While senior numbers have picked up, the club is also struggling for volunteers to serve on the committee.
The club has been going for the past 60 years and they’re keen to continue the tradition.
“We’ve won nine premierships in the past 13 years,” Nascimben said. “We’ve got a very proud history.”
The Griffith Waratahs have great sponsors, they just need to boost their numbers on the field and on the committee.
This week’s games will be played at the Exies sports ovals tomorrow.
