Griffith winners in Wagga Futsal Cup
The Piva Building U12’s winning Wagga Futsal Cup team.
The fifth edition of the hugely successful Wagga Futsal Cup, the first fully sanctioned Football NSW competitive Futsal Event was held over the weekend in Wagga Wagga.
Three Griffith U12’s futsal teams, Piva Building, Griffith City Fencing and Travelling Futsalors attended the event at the Equex Multi Purpose Stadium. The competition consisted of a round robin format with the best four teams in each age group playing off for spots in grand finals on February 7.
With tough competition, the three Griffith futsal teams successfully made it to the finals with Piva Building and Griffith City Fencing facing off in the grand final. After a tough encounter ending in a 3-3 draw, extra time was played for three minutes. With no further goals, penalty shoot outs took place to decide the winner.
Piva Building’s Riley Harrison in goals was proven to be too much for the Griffith City Fencing shooters. Riley put his skill to work and stopped the ball from entering the goal. Pival Building’s shooters, Nicholas Piva and Anthony Pangallo were just too accurate and successfully scored the winning goals needed to secure the Grand Final Win. Piva Building also made it through each round robin format undefeated.
Riley Harrison was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match with his performance in goals.
It is such a credit to all three, Piva Building, Griffith City Fencing and Travelling Futsalors, with some also playing out of their age divisions. All teams played with great determination and fantastic spirit showcasing their skills and brilliant sportsmanship.
Congratulations and well done to the Piva Building U12’s futsal team as the winners of the Wagga Futsal Cup 2021.
