Griffith’s New Urologist Is A Returning Son
Urologist, Dr Paul Bergamin returns home to practice locally at Griffith Base Hospital and St Vincent’s Private Hospital.
As a young medical student, Paul Bergamin committed to one day returning to Griffith as a practising doctor.
He is keeping that promise as the city’s new urologist.
Dr Bergamin grew up on a citrus farm just outside of Griffith before moving to Sydney for medical training.
He attended medical school at UNSW, spending 18 months at the Wagga Wagga University of NSW Rural Clinic School campus, and completing surgical terms at Griffith Base Hospital as a registrar.
Dr Bergamin obtained a fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons as a urological surgeon in January 2021, after training in Sydney, Brisbane and northern NSW.
He also holds a conjoint senior lecturer position with the University of NSW, interviewing, teaching and examining on a regular basis.
“Having completed a fellowship year in regional Australia, I have an awareness of the joys and limitations of regional practice,” Dr Bergamin said.
“I believe in providing a local comprehensive urological assessment and management service to patients, with referral to sub-specialising high-volume centres where appropriate.”
Dr Bergamin will be working in both Griffith Base Hospital and St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Griffith.
“I am very excited and proud to return home to care for people in the communities that made me who I am,” he said.
“Outside of work, I enjoy returning to Griffith as much as possible with my family and have introduced my children to the joys of orange picking and packing.”
