Griffith’s Scenic Hill Water Reservoir Set To Receive Mural Art

Griffith’s Scenic Hill Water Reservoir is set for a facelift and you could help choose the design.
The Griffith community has been asked to help select the theme for the mural painting to grace the face of Griffith’s Scenic Hill Water Reservoir.
A survey link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TXCPD8J has been set up for residents to select their preferred theme.
They can also head to www.griffith.nsw.gov.au or visit the Griffith City Library for hard copies.
The four suggested themes are:
- Water;
- Multicultural;
- Agriculture and manufacturing; and
- Indigenous/First Nations.
The survey closes on Sunday, April 30.
Preparation work is due to commence at the end of August, with the mural painted during spring and completed in time for this year’s Griffith SpringFest.
Renowned muralist, Khosnaran Khurelbaatar, more well-known by his artist name, Heesco, has been appointed to design and paint the mural.
Heesco’s silo art can be seen in communities such as Weethalle, Gunnedah, Harden Murrumburrah and Grenfell.
You can also see his extensive mural work on his website at www.heesco.com.
Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran said the mural would create an aesthetically pleasing attraction for the enjoyment of visitors and locals alike.
“The fact that the water tank is located adjacent to Griffith Pioneer Park Museum and close to the Hermit’s Cave where so many of our visitors go, will only enhance the area,” Mayor Curran said.
“We have seen how popular silo art has become in so many towns around Australia.
“Now we have this opportunity to use the tank as a canvas to create a really impactful piece of artwork.
“There is an Australian Silo Art Trail website which also has a section for water towers and tanks with over 140 listed there.
“To have Griffith’s mural added to that line-up will only help boost tourism.”
Preparation work is due to commence at the end of August 2023, with the mural painted during Spring and completed in time for this year’s Griffith SpringFest.
