Hanwood Oval’s new amenities block was officially opened on Tuesday, December 3.
The new amenities block at Hanwood Oval was officially opened on Tuesday, December 3 at 11 am.
Griffith Mayor Doug Curran said it was rewarding to see the project come to life.
“This upgrade is more than just an infrastructure improvement; it’s a community asset that will benefit residents, local sports clubs and visitors for years to come,” Mayor Curran said.
“This has been a true community collaboration, and I’d like to thank everyone involved, particularly the Hanwood soccer and cricket clubs and Hanwood Public School.
“Their insights have helped us shape a facility that meets a range of needs, from the players on the field to the spectators and officials.”
Council held one of its Community Opinion Group meetings in Hanwood and this project is a testament to that process and the positive impact engaging with Council can lead to.
Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said that the project demonstrated the NSW Government’s commitment to providing inclusive and accessible multi-sport facilities that support participation at all levels.
“Local sport infrastructure plays a critical role in keeping communities healthy, active and connected and it is vital that these facilities meet the needs of the whole community,” Mr Kamper said.
“These upgrades ensure that everyone can feel comfortable and supported to take part in sport and active recreation at Hanwood Oval.”
The newly completed Hanwood Sports Complex amenities block offers several features including:
Change rooms - four spacious, non-gender-specific change rooms equipped with toilets, showers and wash basins;
Referees room - a dedicated space complete with an adult change table;
Canteen/kiosk - a fully equipped, modern kiosk with additional storage to support events and gatherings;
Public toilets - separate facilities for male, female and disabled visitors;
Covered spectator areas - shaded awnings providing comfort along both sides of the building, including bench seating; and
Minor landscaping around the constructed building.
The modern facility was designed and constructed by Greenwich Build Pty Ltd, delivering on the vision for a high-quality, inclusive sports complex.
It was made possible with $1,150,000 in funding from the Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund (2022/23, Round 2) and Council’s contribution of $813,000.
The official opening was attended by community members and key representatives from Council, local clubs and schools.
