Griffith City Council seeks community feedback for a draft Plan of Management for Scenic Hill.

The Griffith community is reminded that feedback for the Plan of Management currently being drafted for Scenic Hill must be done on the Council website survey form.

Comments made on social media will not be incorporated into the plan’s feedback tally.

The aim of the survey is to discover how often, and for what reasons, the community uses the Scenic Hill area and what concerns they may have with the locale.

Scenic Hill provides a range of formal recreational use areas, cultural experiences, natural areas and a significant visual quality.

It is a valuable natural resource for the city and surrounds.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said the plan would examine the current character, current use and future needs of the reserves and their relationship to the surrounding lands and communities within which they are located.

“The Draft PoM will establish a clear direction for future development, planning and resource management of the land by Council,” Councillor Curran said.

“Scenic HIll is owned by the State of NSW (as Crown land) and managed by Griffith City Council under the Crown Land Management Act, 2016 and the Local Government Act, 1993.

“There are limitations in relation to development on Scenic Hill due to Federal and State Government laws in relation to Crown land which means any activities, or future proposals, need to be compliant with relevant Local Government, Crown Land’s legislation and Native Title considerations.

‘Council is undertaking community consultation to assist with the development of the PoM for Scenic Hill and inviting the public to provide feedback in an effort to gain the community’s use and appreciation of the area so that we can plan appropriately for the future of this important natural resource.”

You can complete the survey online at www.griffith.nsw.gov.au/scenichill by August 18, 2022.
