Sans Pareil Estate owner and TAFE NSW Griffith graduate, Aaron Salvestrin says TAFE NSW gave him the in-demand skills to thrive in his profession.

A new report has revealed COVID-19 prompted record numbers of people to actively consider changing jobs, with the most recent Gartner Global Talent Monitor finding 24 per cent of Aussie workers were actively seeking other employment.

Minister for Skills and Tertiary Eduation, Alister Henskens said with enrolments for many courses now open for semester two, Careers Week (May 16 to 22) was the perfect time for Griffith residents to turbocharge their career options and get the in-demand skills for the jobs they want.

“There has never been a better time to explore your future and how the NSW Government can help you get a first job, a new job or a better job,” Mr Henskens said.

“The NSW Government is working hard to turbocharge the take-up of vocational education and training by investing in fee-free and low-fee training courses, which aim to get people into jobs and address skills shortages across the state.”

Mr Henskens said Careers Week was dedicated to raising aspirations, challenging stereotypes, and broadening horizons about careers.

One of many Griffith locals to see their careers blossom after studying at TAFE NSW is Aaron Salvestrin, owner and operator of Sans Pareil Estate Winery.

Mr Salvestrin, 27, who completed a Certificate III in Wine Operations, credited TAFE NSW with helping him create a platform for success in the ultra-competitive industry.

“I grew up on a vineyard and every since I can remember, I was fascinated by the wine industry,” Mr Salvestrin said. “I really wanted my career to evolve so I enrolled in a Certificate III in Wine Operations at TAFE NSW Griffith to get real practical skills and work experience.

“It really filled in the blanks for me and helped me understand the reasons behind why we did certain methods of pruning and other tasks in the vineyard.

“If you want to get into the industry, you need a qualification and TAFE NSW is the ideal place to do it.”
