Healthy Pet Day returns to Griffith on Tuesday, November 22.

Griffith City Council has collaborated with RSPCA and Friends of /Griffith Pound to host a Healthy Pet Day on Tuesday, November 22.

Residents who are concession card holders, health care card holders and job seekers over the age of 18 are encouraged to take their pets along for free microchipping and learn more about keeping their animals healthy.

Bookings are essential and eligible pet owners will be notified of the details upon booking.

Council’s Director Sustainable Development, Mr Bruce Gibbs said microchipping, vaccination and health checks were key to responsible pet ownership.

“Council knows the importance of microchipping and is offering this free service to assist pet owners who may not be able to access veterinary services and have their pet vaccinated, microchipped and examined,” Mr Gibbs said.

“Healthy Pet Day is also a good opportunity for pet owners to come along and meet Council staff.”

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said the event would help pets and their owners get the help and support they need.

“I want to thank the Friends of Griffith Pound for their dedication to the welfare of animals in Griffith,” Mayor Curran said.

“It’s because of their hard work and ongoing commitment that we are able to work with RSPCA to hold this event and assist our community.”

Phone 0429 080 132 to register.

Breeders are not eligible for this free service and litters will only be accepted under extenuating circumstances.

Pet owners are asked to ensure their dogs are on leads and cars in carriers.
