Healthy Pet Day Proves Successful
Pets like Charlie can benefit from regular health checks and a day out among their peers at events like last month’s Griffith Healthy Pet Day.
There were 75 dogs and 26 cats health checked, vaccinated and protected against parasites at Griffith’s Health Pet Day held in partnership with RSPCA on Tuesday, November 22.
An Animal Behavioural Specialist was on hand to assist pet owners and provide tips and training advice.
Griffith City Council’s Planning and Environment Manager, Carel Potgieter said it was wonderful to see so many pet owners taking advantage of the Healthy Pet Day.
“The day was a resounding success, with staff and volunteers working hard to not only provide the health services for over 100 pets but to also provide advice, tips and tricks along with free pet food to participants,” Mr Potgieter said.
“Council’s Rehoming Officer, Megan Gibbs was able to use the day to raise awareness and provide regulatory advice to owners and assist with the microchipping of 42 dogs and 9 cats.
“Friends of Griffith Pound also sold vouchers for their subsidised desexing program, which is supported by Griffith City Council and the three local vet clinics, Yoogali Veterinary Centre, Griffith Veterinary Hospital and All Creatures Veterinary Hospital.”
Feedback on the day was positive with local pet owners appreciative of the opportunity to take advantage of these services to assist with keeping their cats and dogs healthy.
Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran thanked the RSPCA and Friends of Griffith Pound for organising the event.
“Partnerships such as this one are important and assist Council in delivering programs that help our community,” Mayor Curran said.
“Health pets and responsible pet ownership is something we are working toward educating our community about and this event is a great way of making that happen.
“Owning a companion animal can be a rewarding experience, however, it is also a big responsibility.
“Owners should ensure that their animal is healthy, well-nourished, groomed, vaccinated, desexed, properly exercised and socialised. “If you need more information please visit Council’s website,”
