Independent Member for Murray, Helen Dalton has secured a grant of just under $54,000 for Griffith’s Meals on Wheels (MOW) as part of a $4.6 million package of new grants to fight food wast in NSW.

As part of the NSW Government’s commitment to reduce the 1.7 million tonnes of food that is wasted each year in NSW, the grant will be used to expand cold transport capacity to increase food resources, engage more food donors and provide more community food relief in the Griffith area.

Helen Dalton said Meals on Wheels made a significant difference to people’s lives.

“It’s great to see the organisation’s incredible work recognised with a grant that will improve the lives of those in need in our community,” Ms Dalton said.

The funding is part of a broader package of grants which have been given to businesses, councils, hospitals, schools and charitable organisations across NSW to reduce food waste and feed those in need.

The first round of the NSW Government’s Food Rescue Grants has awarded nearly $3 million to support 20 charities and community organisations to rescue more surplus or donated food and deliver it to people in need across NSW.

“Supporting the most vulnerable people in our community is a tough job and Griffith Meals on Wheels and its volunteers do an amazing job for those in need.”
