Will Crisp has been a deejay for the past seven years, but he started his own business Encore Solutions two years ago in Young.
He and a friend had often joked about refurbing an old caravan together.
“He was a chippee and I was a sparky,” Mr Crisp said. “One day I decided I was just going to do it.”
“I spent about six months looking around for an old caravan.”
The search was over, though, when he came across a farm with five old caravans that had been used as cherry-pickers’ accommodation, just sitting there.
“I asked the farm how much he wanted and he told me to make an offer.”
Mr Crisp said his offer of $700 was accepted, even though it was worth at least double that.
Then came the hard part, they gutted the 22ft 1968 Viscount Duralvan and gave her a brand new look, The ‘Drawback’ DJ Caravan’s maiden gig was the 70th Annual Cherry Festival in 2019.
It is the only one of its kind in New South Wales and Northern Victoria. Along with the deejay, sound system and wireless hand-held microphones, the DJ Caravan comes with optional festoon lighting and 44 gallon bar tables.
