Yenda Indoor Carpet Bowls held its annual Carpet Bowls Tournament over the weekend of May 1 and 2. The event was held at the Yenda Memorial Hall with teams travelling from Melbourne, Albury, Cowra, Bathurst, Young, Echuca, Moama, Leeton and Griffith.
After being forced to cancel the tournament last year due to COVID, bowlers were happy to be back on the mats and enjoying the competition.
Teams played seven games of nine ends, four on Saturday and three on Sunday. With a prize pool of $2250, competition was fierce and competitors were in good spirits.
First prize of $1200 went to Joe D’Aquino from Griffith. Leeton’s Ida Oliver took 2nd place prize of $600 and Albury’s Darrel Jones took home $300 for 3rd place, while Thelma Roberts from Young went home with $150 for her 4th place.
A novelty prize of a bottle of Berton wine and a block of chocolate was awarded to Ron Mansfield from Melbourne as an encouragement award.
Organisers thanked their major sponsors Yenda Producers, Berton’s Family Wines, Bunnings, Bertoldos Bakery, Josie’s Pizza and Pasta and Coles for their donations of food and prizes for the continuous raffle.
The Saturday night dinner was a huge success with everyone enjoying the entertainment singalong provided by Louie Forner.
Money raised on the day will be donated to Riding for the Disabled and Country Hope for Kids.
