The Her Way 2680 project is set to install two new foot bridges, footpaths, landings and seating on Ulong and Kooyoo Streets in a significant step towards improving perceived safety of girls and women in public spaces across the city.
Starting with the removal of the Ulong Bridge, work to prepare the areas will begin in the next two weeks.
As part of the works, the bridges will be removed and replaced with new wider bridges.
This will require the closure of the bridges over the coming months.
During this time, the bridges will be upgraded to align with the outcomes of the community-led consultation through the Her Way 2680 project.
The footbridge sites will be fenced off as construction zones and residents are asked to seek an alternative route.
Two suggested detours are:
- Jondaryan Avenue to and from Canal Street as an alternative to the Kooyoo Street Bridge; and
- The foot bridge across from Murrumbidgee Regional High School on Willandra Avenue as an alternative to the Ulong Street Bridge.
Council appreciates residents’ understanding and cooperation during the period of improvement and development.
The upgrades aim to enhance the safety and functionality of the essential pedestrian bridges for the benefit of the whole community.
The Her Way 2680 project is committed to fostering a more inclusive, safe and vibrant community.
