The Griffith Soroptimist International group’s International Women’s Day breakfast was a huge success, with 250 people in attendance.

Speaking on behalf of the Griffith Soroptimists, Louise Miller said they were extremely happy with the turnout.

“We had some family members there to support the girls, Lucy and Hilary,” Ms Miller said.

“We had a table set aside for two each of the school captains.

“The ladies talked about going to the local highschool and how that set them up for life.”

This year’s event was held at the Bagtown and Ms Miller said it worked out very well.

“Faye did a great job,” Ms Miller said.

“There was coffee and tea before we got started.

“Then everyone had a pot of muesli and yoghurt followed by a cooked breakfast.

“It was a substantial meal to start the day and we were out by 8:30/9 o’clock.”

Lucy and Hilary Geddes signed books and CDs at the end of the event.

Both ladies donated their speaker’s fee to the Griffith Women’s Refuge and Lucy’s book publisher donated $5 per book sold to the Griffith Soroptimists.

“We were very fortunate with out sponsors this year,” Ms Miller said.

“Some have been with us for a number of years and others have just joined.”

The next thing happening for the group is their Bunnings barbecue at the end of April, so make sure to grab a sausage sandwich and support the great work the Griffith Soroptimist International does within our community.

Some exciting news for the group is that a number of them will be travelling to Dublin in July for the Soroptimist International Conference.

Each group from around the world was invited to submit a poster and 100 of them would be on display at the conference.

Ms Miller said that Griffith’s poster is one of those selected to be shown.

The Griffith Phoenix will catch up with them to see how everything goes.
